Rumsfeld : "It might make things clearer if we look at the situation like big a MMORPG. Take World of Warcraft, for instance. The US and the new Iraqi government, and their allies on the ground like Moldova, Albania and Mongolia, are the Alliance. Terrorist groups and subversives like Al Qaeda are Horde, plain and simple." "You got to use the right lingo to get the ear of the kids." "Tim, we’re not dealing with AI here. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill NPC’s. These are trained killers who will stop at nothing to inflict damage to a large AOE, area of affect." "Until the job is done. We’re not going to cut-and-run. You have to look at the Fertile Crescent right now like it's one giant, overloaded PvP server." Playing World of Warcraft myself, the absurdity of the comparison made me laugh at first. But in the end I didn't appreciate the fact that it could be used as a way to feed war in the real world. This video is a SECOND DEGREE answer to these words. And nothing else ! This is not an anti/pro USA video, nor an anti/pro Bush video, nor an anti/pro anything-you-want video ! Except the fact that, like many people, I'm agaisnt the idea of war. But that's not even the topic, the idea is rather to say "Look, here's what you'll get if you believe this absurd comparison ..." It's naïve, but it was meant to be ! This video is complicated and abstract as well as the soundtrack lyrics. That's why I'm writing this text in order to bring more precisions and explainations to it's interpretation ... because it can be very easily misunderstood. Though it's not a "private joke", I don't mean to address it to a very large audience, but to "those who will get the thing". FIRST VERSE : Call to war, in the real world as in the game. SECOND VERSE : In the real world, war is difficult while in the game we're having a party with Horde. You know ? Those ugly terrorists ? THIRD VERSE : In the game we all resurrect while in real life, the dead stay dead. Naïve, but it was meant to be ! (bis) CHORUS : (see below "So why superimposing Georges W. Bush's and Donald H. Rumsfeld's heads on BWL bosses ?") (More logically we should have resurrected in the second verse and have a had the party in the third. But for some reasons, things are the way they are.) THE SOUNDTRACK : "Golden Boys" (NOFX) - imho, some ideas about this band are completely deprecated since their productions since 2003 ! :-p - the lyrics seem rather abstract in my opinion, but I see it as an allusion to religion used to encourage soldiers to go to war, the same way World of Warcraft is used in the D. Rumsfeld quote. - the very first images of the video follow exactly the lyrics : Mother Mary had a son - whos days were spent on having fun / Then one day he got a letter : - "You can make yourself feel better !" * / Mother mary had a man who healed with healing hands The rest of the video bases itself on the opposition between Mother mary had a man who healed with healing hands and Millions of boys lay/stay dead which follows. * Then he goes to war. First question : "And what if this information is just a hoax ? (a fake ?)" In my opinion, it's probably one. Anyway, this video is an answer to the content of the quote here above attributed to D. Rumsfeld, but it does NOT constitute any political attack in any way. So maybe these D. Rumsfeld and Georges W. Bush in the video are only fiction characters ! "So why superimposing Georges W. Bush's and Donald H. Rumsfeld's heads on BWL bosses ?" This is what disappoints me the most in this video, I've always known it would be interpreted as some wish about killing someone ... But it's not that at all. The quote is attributed to D. Rumsfeld in the context of an American war, D. Rumsfeld is part Georges W. Bush's government, Nefarian is the final boss of the instance where Broodlord Lashlayer is, ... that's the link between them. On the other side, saying that fighting against terrorism is equal to fighting against Horde is like superimposing the terrorists heads on Horde characters and reciprocally. Jouant moi-même à World of Warcraft, l'absurdité de la comparaison m'a d'abord fait rire. Ensuite je n'appréciais pas l'idée que ce jeu puisse servir d'incitation à prendre part à la guerre dans le monde réel. Cette vidéo est donc une réponse AU SECOND DEGRE à ces propos, inutile de chercher beaucoup plus loin. Ca n'est pas une vidéo anti/pro USA, ni anti/pro Bush, ni anti/pro tout ce que vous voulez ! Si ce n'est que comme beaucoup de genre je suis plutôt opposé à l'idée de la guerre. Mais ça n'est même pas le sujet, l'idée c'est plutôt de dire "Regardez ce qui vous attends si vous écoutez ces comparaisons absurdes ..." C'est très naïf, mais c'est tout à faite volontaire. Son montage est très abstrait, tout comme les paroles de la soundtrack qui n'est pas utilisée par hasard. C'est pourquoi je me permets de créer ce fichier afin d'y apporter quelques explications et précisions ... car on s'y perd facilement (ce qui est d'ailleurs assez compréhensible). Bien que ça ne soit pas une "private joke", je n'adresse pas cette vidéo à un trop large public mais plutôt à "ceux qui accrocheront au concept". PREMIER COUPLET : Appel à la guerre, dans le monde réel comme dans le jeu. SECOND COUPLET : Dans le monde réel la guerre est difficile, pendant ce temps dans le jeu on s'amuse avec les Hordeux. Vous savez ces fameux terroristes ? TROISIEME COUPLET : Dans le jeu tout le monde ressucite alors que dans le monde réel, les morts restent morts. Première critique : "Et si cette information était un hoax ? (un fake ?)" A mon avis, il est plus que probable que c'en soit un. Mais de toute façon cette vidéo ne répond qu'au contenu des phrases citées ci-dessus attribuées à D. Rumsfeld. Elle ne constitue pas une attaque politique contre qui que ce soit. Peut-être que ce Georges W. Bush et ce D. Rumsfeld ne sont que des personnages de fiction. "Alors pourquoi aposer les têtes de Georges W. Bush et Donald H. Rumsfeld sur les boss de BWL ?" C'est le point qui me dérange le plus dans cette vidéo : j'ai toujours su que cela serait interprété comme une sorte d'envie de tuer, une sorte de fantasme d'attentat. Or ça n'est pas ça du tout ! La citation est attribuée à D. Rumsfeld dans le contexte d'une guerre américaine, D. Rumsfeld fait partie du même gouvernement que Georges W. Bush, Nefarian est le boss final de l'instance où se trouve Broodlord Lashlayer ... voilà pour le lien entre les deux. D'autre part, dire que combattre le terrorisme c'est comme combattre la Horde, c'est comme apposer la tête des terroristes sur celle des Hordeux ou réciproquement.
